FLORIDA BCA CHAPTER START-UP
«
on:
October 14, 2015, 02:24:52 PM »
I have moved to the Tampa Florida area from South Jersey due to health issues. I miss the comradery of the BCA members up there. (Capt. Ron and others from the South and Nprth too) Since I know that some of guys from the north have moved to Florida, so I thought it would be nice to start a group down here. If anyone is interested you can post here or send me a bmail.

The wife an I are fairly new to crabbing after moving to the area in April. We'd be interested.

My wife and I are relocating to the Bradenton area in December. I use to crab with my grandparents as a child in New Jersey and Delaware.

Russ, You know that I retired several years ago and moved down to the New Smyrna Beach area. Rather nice here but what's with a hurricane every year? In 2016 it was Matthew and In 2017 it was Irma and now Maria is also threatening! I thought it was supposed to be one every ten years!

Shellfish its NOAA. You didn't read the fine print on page 99. It reads "that's our forecast". We all know about our weathermen.

Yes I know, and cold snowy winters aren't looking so bad lately!

My wife and I moved from Maryland to the Tampa area back in the beginning of 2009. Snowy winters are exactly why we moved. This year was the first hurricane we had to deal with (Irma). Not a pleasant experience but we would not go back. I think this area hadn't had any major storms since 2004. There can be bad weather anywhere you go.
Our major complaint about the Tampa area is that it's hard to get good sized blue crabs. I'm told that the professional crabbers ship them north for more money. Can't blame them I guess. Then again in Maryland the last few years we were there jumbos were going for around $70 to $80 a dozen so we didn't buy many anyway.
I've been following the Blue Crab Archive board (though I don't post much anymore) since 2003 and really like to read all of the reports. Even if most are from up north. Good luck to all who have moved here in finding and catching some good blues. Take care when the storms do come around.
