Ron, what gun are you using?  That looks like a Winchester 1894 on the ground.

Marlin 30-30  Mod 226 ??? I believe.  That gun is 40 years old and shoots great.  I can hit a dime at 100 yds.

Ron good job on the deer but did you shoot him in the head?  :o  My year has been really slow. Shot a buck but the arrow must have hit his shoulder. Found the arrow and only went in about half an inch and the broadhead did not deploy. Only some fur on the arrow head. Good luck everyone.

50 yds. neck shot put him on the ground.  2 years ago I lost a big buck.  I thought he was dead.  Watched him pick his head up and wiggle.  Put the crosshairs on him a second time and told myself "if you even try to get up" next thing I knew he was up and running.  After that day I said if I had 1 bullet in my pocket I was going to make sure that the deer was not running away.  With that thought he wiggled and I shot him a second time in the head.  He didn't wiggle again.

Well headed to camp last Monday and returned yesterday.  Monday scouted in an area not far from where I shot the 8 point the Monday before.  Found this rub/hooking about 1/2 mile from last weeks kill.
Light rain on Monday and Tuesday morning meant that I had to hunt out of a covered ground blind so I wouldn't get wet.  Couldn't hunt close to rub due to brush and small trees.  Skies cleared mid day Tuesday so I climbed a tree not far from the rub.  Saw one deer chasing another.  Both ran 5 feet behind the tree where I was sitting. Second deer was big but couldn't see any horns so I didn't shoot.
Another deer was walking the same path.  I could only make out that it had a fork on one side so I knew it was a buck with at least 3 points.  Put the cross hairs on its neck and pow.  20 yard shot.  Dropped him in his tracks.  It wasn't until I climbed down and walked up to the deer and then realized that I had shot and 8 pt. with a 14" inside spread. Amazing.

Thursday evening I had a small yearling doe walk 20 yards behind me and I didn't shoot.

Headed back to camp on Monday for another 5 day hunt.

Oh BTW its a Marlin 30-30 mod. 336 lever action.

Nice job Ron. I havent killed a buck in a few years. Shot one this year but must of hit a bone. Arrow only went in like half an inch. Still a little upset about that.  >:(

Well bummer.  Didn't see a deer all week.  Wednesday morning Both of my buddies shot.  1 200# 16" spread 8 pt. and 1 200# 18" spread 11 pt.  The 11 point was impressive.  Double drop tines.  Main beam on right side was broken at the G3.

Weather turned hot.  Mid 70's Wednesday and Thursday.  Came home Friday. Headed back on Monday or Wednesday next week.  Still have 1 more buck tag to fill.

Nope.  You'll have to come get it yourself.  Along with some boiled crabs and crawfish.  And if you stay long enough you might get to taste some of my "redfish on the half shell" BBQ.

Our rifle season opens 11/30, heading to camp on Sunday. Not likely to have snow next week.

the pic of the snowy mnt. ......reminded me of a view in the vicinity of Cumberland, MD .....I was up there early one turkey season....when i saw the view ,I pulled over and got out the binocs......I glassed 4,000 acres for an 1/2 hr. and one could see a chipmunk if it moved, the woods where so open....  seen absolutely nothing.....sort of took the wind out of my sails..

sorry about the hi-jack...................good luck Ron.

Well got back from the camp Sunday afternoon.  WOW what a trip.  Wednesday afternoon didn't see anything.  Thursday morning I had a big bore come 10 feet from the stand.  I thought he was going to eat the candy bars out of my back pack.   Didn't shoot.  30 minutes later a small spike chased a doe not 25 yards from me.  Could have shot both of them but I didn't want to use my last buck tag on a spike so I let them walk.  Wasn't 25 minutes later when another 8 point walked up on me. Bang I shot him.  15 steps.  That makes 3 - 8 pointers this year.  Total yardage shot for all 3 deer was about 50 yards.

I'm trying.  My normal website is down.  I'm trying to use another site.

Maybe this will work.

We're only allowed 3 bucks per year.  Friday morning a had at least a 150 pound 3 point 25 yards from me.  Had the cross hairs on its neck then between his eyes then in his ear.  If I hadn't killed the 8 point the day before I would have shot this one.  Nice deer.  About a 14" main beam, 11" spread. Definitely a cull buck but I couldn't shoot.  My son was coming up on Saturday and I was hoping he would get a shot.  No luck.  Sunday morning I had 2 does step out where I shot the first 8 pointer but again I didn't shoot.  I tried to scare them to where my son was hunting but he never saw them.  Broke camp at 1100 and headed home.
