Got my 4x8 tank up and running w some minnows in it. It has been about two weeks and everything seems to be working, but I'm sure I'm overlooking some things. I uploaded a photo of my biofilter. It's just 2 bushel of shell in a Rubbermaid tub and the shell is separated by some hardware mesh, with a little giant pond pump on the other side of mesh. Osterlings book said to add some dirty water to it so I took some dirt shook it in a jar, let it settle, then added the wate to the filter. I'm not sure if that will work to establish bacteria but I'm hoping it does.

Buy a container of biozyme for $3. It works wonders. Would have eliminated alot of maybes.

It should work fine Jim but the product FP mentioned or there's another product for septic systems that will work.
