Have a question. How long would you feel safe for keeping crabs in the refrigerator before cooking that were Shelled and cleaned of innards out?

I have kept them overnight and will not do it again.  Several of the cleaned crabs came out mushy when cooked. Now, as soon as I clean the crabs, they are cooked.

Just a side note that this is for crab in the fridge. If you want to freeze cleaned crab that's another thing.

Hi bgfishhook1 here:

I also done the kill and clean thing with the same success that most crabbers have. If you get a mushy crab chances are he was left go too long, I always killed and cleaned them and then right into the steamer I never tried the clean and freeze thing but it sounds like a try and test thing that I will try.Remember, that a dead crab steamed will always be a mushy crab, at least that is what I found it to be! This is a great forum guys, keep up the fine work!
