KC, You can get a Thopson without a permit? Try it and see how far you get!
Aside from a thorough Federal background check a $200.00 Federal Firearms transfer tax stamp and about $25,000 cash you will be laughed at! None of the criminals register or legally purchase their guns because they would not pass the checks or have the money! The criminals are just waiting for the day when the Gov disarms its citizens...there will be just a bunch of helpless victims left. Criminals will run rampant. Look at what happened in England! They seized legally registered weapons and crime rose...gee go figure!
The crimes you're witnessing in Philly are from street gangs that are becomming much more violent.
The gangs need to be addressed  and they are but it is a long process due to legalities!
NYC just experieced a tragedy where a 2 year old in a car was shot and killed by a stay bullet. This happened on Easter Sunday! One gang member is in custody and they are looking for one more.
Retired in paradise!

I have to agree with Bog on this one. I think it is a very liberal belief that our government can control ANYTHING! If we stripped Americans of the right to bear arms, the only thing it would do is remove any little doubt that a criminal may have regarding thier prey concealing. I think we would have LESS victims if they made concealed weapon permits more readily available, with proper background investigations of course.
Drugs are illegal, but the same people carrying automatic weapons also have them. So what makes you think for one minute that they are applying for permits?

Completely right there ChrisS and Stevo...from what I've read, New Orleans went around seizing weapons from law abiding citizens trying to protect their family and property from rapists, murderers and thieves.  This is EXACTLY what the 2nd amendment is for.  Self protection when law breaks down and the govt is helpless to help you.  VERY DISTURBING

Look at DC.  You cannot have a gun in DC period....  Not just handguns or machine guns.  No shotguns and no rifles either.  My cousin was trown in jail delivering crabs to a restaurant on his way to go goose hunting.  Some bike cop rode by his car and saw the gun case and camo coveralls in the back seat.  Waited for him to come back and cuffed him.  ALSO VERY DISTURBING.
So DC should be crime free, right?  No way, it's terrible!!!!!!!!!  Law abiding citizens are defenseless.  DC is a prime example that laws don't work on criminals.

Tis true.... a buddy of mine lives in DC, and he's told me many times that he thinks the same thing that happened in LA can and will happen in DC, with lawlessness running rampant.  [Sam Hill], those cops down there can't keep up as it is now... what happens when Osama drops the next surprise attack, or some nut releases the dirty bomb?... it will be complete chaos and anarchy.  My buddy wanted to buy a shotgun, and quickly found out its not only illegal to possess, but nobody in a 100 mile radius would even consider selling him one because of his DC address.  He ventually bought one in a round-about way, and now claims he'll be the only one left standing on his block when the sh_t goes down :rifle: :rifle: :rifle:

DC HAS THE HIGHEST MURDER RATE IN THE NATION,in my little part of the world we have very little violent crime, my doors are never locked i never lock or take the keys to my truck at the ramp, the #1 reason is that there is a 12 ga pump beside my computer there is another in the bedroom, i carry a 40 cal S&W on the boat. If somebody wants to steal from me or worse they know that the risk is great and i will not be gentel and hold them over for the legal system to turn loose. So they mostly stay in the bigger city's where there are strict gun control laws put in place to protect the criminals and put the citizens at risk...............Gun control is puting 4 of 5 in the 10 ring at 100 yards ;D

OK my 2 cents..... I agree with Bog and Stevo and the rest.  Guns aren't bad ..peopel are... guns don't kill people, but rather people kill people.  Maryland had the most gun restrictive state in the union.  They pushed through a sat night special law in the late 80's.  It was so poorly written it actually outlawed expensive competitive sport shooting single shoot handguns and allowed cheaps little pistols and glocks and other hands guns through.  It mad no sense.  The biggest problem is no you don't need an AK-47 to deer hunt, but the way the politicians write the laws the will use words like Auto and semi auto intercahngeable and semi auto would include most handguns, shotguns and rifles.  The very guns hunters and sport shooter use.  So let's outlaw those guns will the criminals will always still get their guns.  MD also has had a mandatory 5 year sentence for using a handgun in a felony on the books for 35 years.  No one has ever served the full 5 years for that law.  MD also has a new balistic finger print taken with every handgun.  When you buy a handgun they take a balistic check off the gun before you get it.  So if the gun is used in a crime they will know exactly who owns the gun and who committed the crime.  I don't think criminals are going to sign up legally and register their guns and balistics so they can leave their finger prints at the crime scene.  Are we that nieve.   MD is strongly against gun ownership and bill it as it will make thing safer and better.  I see Baltimore just became one of the most dangerous citites in the USA.  Good job Mayor O'Malley and Attourney General Curan ( his father in law )  If we outlaw guns only outlaws will have guns.  So do we really need more laws that we don't even enforce now, just to look like we care.
It only punishes the law abiding.  I have a thought.  Let's outlaw acohol and we can save 20,000 needless highway deaths a year.  Better yet, let's outlaw cars too and save the oter 20,000 lives.  I think we tried outlawing acohol once before.  You know they called that the Roaring 20's and the rise of organized crime and started the whole gang thing.  Wow that really worked.  They found a way to get their acohol then and their guns, yet no one else could... Meanwhile in PA anyone can go to the county court hosue and apply for a right to carry a firearm concealed and get it no questions asked.  As long as you are not a felon or been in a crazy house.  Let's just say the crime rate in my area is non existent.  Noow the only 2 areas the right to carry is valide is Philly and Pittsburgh.  Wonder what their crime rates are.  I think we get an idea form KC's comments.  souunds pretty brutal.  Bottom line we need to enforce the existing laws on the books not make more laws that continue to harass and stop the law abiding citizens their constititionally guaranteed rights.  Yes they are rights, not a priveledge.  Without the 2nd ammendment, we owuld not a have a constitution or the ammendments.  It is what gives everything teeth.  We need to hold people accountable for their actions instead of the inaniment objects.  Most criminals have been in and out of the revolving doors of justicea nd usually hit their zenith of crime because of it.  I don't buy that their are a product of their environment either.  Being form an urban area does not mean that you must quit school, rape rob and steal and do the WRONG thing.  I know I might have lived in suburbia... but I worked 40-60 hours a week and went to school full time and finally graduated after 5 years.  Twice having to quit to take over my father's business during illness.
So don't go there and tell me it is because they didn't have the opportunities.  BS... we make ouor way in this world as best we can... that is not an excuse, but rather a cop out.  They need to rise above things and do what is right.  Instead they take the  easy way out and gnags and drugs are a big part of it.  Another thought,  Nazi Germany and Communist China had/have gun control.. don't think most would have wanted to live there in those circumstances.   Once the liberla politicians get their foot in the door with gun control.. it only becomes a revision or ammendment to the law to then outlaw all guns.  Once that dyke cracks the flood will come and all of it will be gone.  That is why if you start outlawing a few or some it becomes only a step away from all being lost.  England and Canada also have full gun bans.  The crime rates are out of control in those countries.  The thugs now have the guns and the citizens rushed out to buy bullet proof vest and that was then also outlawed.  So you can't shoot back and you can't wear protective clothing so you don't get shot and the cops don't carry guns.  What a concept.   Man that is all we need.
Bottom line... Why do I need to own an AK-47..?  Because I can and it is MY God given RIGHT under the 2nd ammendment of the Constitution.

I will get off my soap box now...

But why do you really need to own and use an AK-47?  A God-given right, fine, but whats the real reason you NEED to have that?  I have a real problem with guns like those... sure, you can kill a dear with one, but lets get to the bottom line... they are not meant for that.  Osama and his crew use those guns, and I seriously doubt they are hunting deer >:(

Ballistic fingerprints are a joke. Some steel wool down the barrel changes it's features and the firing pin can be replaced or altered as well. It was a feel good measure, but like Crabdog said, it's the people, not the guns. You can load a pistol and cock the hammer and place it on a table or a thousand years and it will never firem, unless disturbed by a human. Acts of nature over that long of a period of time are taken out of the equation. :)

I do agree with the lack of non-military applications for guns like that, that's why I don't own one.   I'm not an advocate of them, but at the heart of the issue is somewhere in the middle of the crabdog address  ;).  Like me at the China buffet, politicians can't stop themselves.  It's a slippery slope that Canada and Great Britain slid down, and it's just a matter of time before the US does too.

So you say, "I don't use guns, never had, never will, doesn't affect me, so ban the guns, I'll be safer, great..."  That position is so dangerous because it's so false.  You'll be less safe, it doesn't work that way...seriously, don't kid yourselves.

You'll still have these bloody shootouts with criminals with full auto weapons, remember that these guns are already illegal.
