I've been in discussions with NJ Fish & Wildlife for months regarding an issue related the recreationał crabbing in NJ.   I'm pleased to report that NJ Fish & Wildlife will be making announcement regarding these discussions at the Assault on Patcong Creek on Saturday, June 24th.

More news once the announcement is made.

Yes.    Fish & Wildlife has reopened the state record for Blue Crabs.    New catches that beat the old and so-called retired record may be submitted to the state.

The bonito record stands from 1945.

8-3/4" or 9", those are still huge crabs.  I've probably caught 50 over 8" but only 3 over 8-1/2".
 ( 8-9/16",8-3/4" and 9-1/8" ). that's the real barometer of monster to me. I agree it will be broken , just not sure how soon.

You south guys get the big stuff.

Up north Monmouth county I've caught a few at 8 inches.  Knew one guy who caught some big 8's in the Raritan River (NOT BAY)  near the abandoned dry docks.  But that place is loaded with Chromium from the Carborundum plant that was there west of the Parkway bridge.

I think in north NJ the 9+ incher is likely is some uncrabbed waters (i.e. polluted)  in Newark Bay or Hackensack Rivers
