Ware River 7/24

Went back to the Ware on Sunday morning and crabbed 6am to 10am with trotline. Had to get off the water before the heat killed us. Hit the last hour of outgoing and the first few hours of incoming. Ended up with a half a bushel of good sized crabs. Not the heaviest crabs I've ever seen. Small crabs were all over the line and chewed up the chicken necks pretty good but definitely some big boys mixed in the bunch.

The Ware River used to be known for big crabs, like Maryland's Wye River. You should be catching some numbers of big crabs in the fall when the weather is cooler.

Thanks for the info. I've been hoping it would keep getting better as the season goes on. I grew up in St. Michael's, MD on the Miles River which is the next river over off of eastern bay from the Wye river. Very familiar with the big crabs that can come out of there. I think I spent most of the summers in middle school riding my bike around to the public docks with a bushel basket and a crab net stacked on the handle bars.

Don't we all wish it were still like those simpler times.
