I live in the Williamsburg area and was wondering what you guys are using as bait. I haven't been able to find any chicken necks. I found a cheap package of chicken gizzards and hearts for $3 and so I stuffed a section of panty hose with a handful, and tied it to my crab ring. Seemed to work pretty well. My son and I pulled out 6 crabs in 30 minutes using a single ring (it was only a short test trip).

I'm thinking about trying some clam bags and snoods from Capt Bruce's instead of using the hose since they are reusable and not very expensive.

There's a place on the east side of Richmond that sells chicken necks in 40lb boxes, Tom's meat and Produce.  I bought one of those earlier in the year, have been 5 times and still have 2 or 3 gallon zip lock bags full in the freezer.  I think the best thing to do is call around to wholesale butcher shops and see if they have any they would sell you for cheap.  If you can't find that we like to put cut up croaker in the pots but its hard to use on a trot line.  I suspect chicken hearts/gizzards will get torn up real fast by the crabs.
