Officials are investigating two apparent drownings Friday in Anne Arundel County.

The most recent incident occurred Friday afternoon in Spa Creek in Annapolis.

The Annapolis Fire Department, along with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police, responded to a call for a drowning at 2:22 p.m. near Truxtun Park.

Victor Cruz Jiminez, 43, was pulled from the water by Natural Resources Police and pronounced dead at the scene, fire and NRP officials said.

A witness told rescuers he was swimming with Jiminez about 30 feet from the shore when Jiminez went under the water and did not resurface.

NRP officials could not confirm that detail, saying only the two men had been crabbing from the shore near the park's boat ramp, and investigators had not determined how Jiminez ended up in the water.

Earlier in the day, a body was retrieved from Valentine Creek near Herald Harbor in Crownsville, said NRP spokesman Lt. Brian Albert.

The call came around 9:30 a.m. from a passerby who saw the body in the water near an old boat ramp, Albert said. The deceased was identified as Gary Ray Rebstock Jr. 54.

It is not known how he ended up in the water. Albert said the man's son reported he had not seen his father in a few days, but had not reported him missing.

Albert said another witness reported seeing Rebstock on Thursday.

Investigations continue in both incidents
