Jim what kind of material is the screen you used for the bottom 6 inches of the divider between oyster shell and pump area? I was told not to use metal and am afraid regular old fiber glass screen is to fragile and would clog up to easy. Any thoughts would be great.

I saw an ad on craig's list for 4x8 fiberglass sloughing boxes. North Carolina I think.

As far as pressure treated lumber. It won't kill the crabs but the chemicals are ingested into humans. The chemicals in the wood will bleed into the water then into the crabs.

Ended up using Exterior grade not PT and 2 coats of Gluvit.

Thanks for the info. I ended up going with the Magnatec 1800GPH. Tank has been functional for almost 2 months now and currently has 26 crabs in it, all seems good right now.

Thanks for sharing your build and info Jim and all the helpful input from the other guys that contributed. This is a great post. I was in the reef aquarium hobby for a while up until a few years ago and the more I crab now the more I consider building a shedding box. One thing I can speak on from experience is the sump filtering system and if you ever need to replace the metal mesh at the bottom look for a 2x4’ fluorescent lighting fixture diffuser made from plastic at a big box hardware store. The openings are about 1/2”x1/2” and it will never chemically break down from the water. We used them in sumps and in coral frag tanks and they work great. Thanks again for posting!
