I have been crabbing for a couple of years and this year I have my boat in a rack near Ocean City (actually the Patcong creek). I have never crabbed in this area. Could anyone help me with some good spots, best tides or any tips? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks A Lot!

I usually don't give that area up. However, since you are a member to the board...You are actually in a good spot already if you are on the Patcong. I've never had huge numbers there, but the crabs are nice size. High tide going out.

BDC, Thanks for the information. I am hoping to get out there and give it a shot on Saturday, although it might be a little early.
Thanks.

We went out yesterday for about an 1 ½ hours. We caught about 6 crabs and only 3 male keepers. We tried two spots at near high tide (falling), but I think the current was to strong for my handlines. Next time I will try to find a spot with less current. The crabbing wasn’t great, but it was a nice day and everyone had a good time.

Personally, I like the ring traps myself and when that current picks up, I'll tie on a railroad spike as a weight. Been years since I did handlines but same worked in the heavy current. Tied on chicken and gave the spike about a foot of rope so it didn't bang against the crab on the way up. Didn't do too bad.

Matts Landing was very productive last weekend (Memorial Day). Went a few days before and caught about 4 doz keepers. Then went Thurs before memorial day and caught about 3 doz that were mostly over 5" in three hours. We cooked em all up and had a party for six that night. They kept us busy for about 2 hours!! Everyone was happy with taste and size.

Matts Landing is the east side of Maurice River near the bay. Turn right off 47 near Leesburg Prison.
