Well after 80 degree temps the past few days I decided on Saturday Feb 25th I'd set out 4 pots and see if anything was on the prowl in Topsail sound. By the # of pots you can see I was not very optimistic. Had a 16 hour soak in 4 foot of water and was surprised to have 30 crabs in the pots with 6 big Jimmies and a stone crab. Never set out before mid to late March before but this weather has not been like this year either.

I wish I had known more when I got down Thursday evening. I'd have set them all out. Looks like it could be a great year.

Please put the date, mm/day/year, in the "Subject" of reports.  That will help everyone searching for current reports.  Thanks

this year we've seen the most v-belly and peeler crabs west end of sound sound and mouths of Pam and Pungo rivers as compared to last year....there was none. Word of note, least here...after next week we might see those Jimmies around the shallows close or just off grass beds. Fingers crossed.
