The 2017 Biggest Blue Crab Contest is here!    The entry has changed to $10 this year.

What has changed are the dates (beginning May 1st instead of April 1st) and that we will have only a division for recreational crabbers.    We simply did not receive enough entries from Commercial Crabbers last year.  There will be a first, 2nd and 3rd place price for recs.    The amount of the awards depends on how many people enter.

If there are enough entrants to have excess money to cover Rich's expenses for the awards, additional moneys will then be distributed to the winners in a top prize down manner.    Alternatively, if Rich isn't up to doing awards, the total pot will be split among the winners as it was this year.

The rules of the contest remain unchanged from previous years.   To refresh everyone's memory, they are listed below.

#1 All entries must be postmarked by May 1st.     We have a Paypal/Credit Card option so no late entries will be accepted.
#2 Contest starts May 1st and ends DEC 1st
#3 MUST be alive and freshly caught.   No exceptions.
#4  Must be a MALE Blue crab.
#5  Must summit a CLEAR picture with a ruler to verify the size in this subforum.
#6 In case of a TIE the earliest or first picture summited will be the winner.

Send entry fees to:   Ron Meischker, 5 Chestnut St., Somers Point, NJ 08244.   Make sure to include your real name, your screen name, address and phone # with your entry.   .   Once your fee is received you will receive Board Message from my noting it's receipt.

If you wish to pay by Paypal (preferred!) you can buy a ticket at the link below:

http://assaultonpatcongcreek.com/product/2017-largest-crab-ticket/

Note tickets bought with Paypal will be $10.50 to cover the cost of the Paypal Fees.

I will update the list of entrants below as entries are received.

I think you would get more entries if you publicized the link to this contest within some of the other popular pages in this forum - like crabbing reports or the welcome page - at least  until May 1st.  If I wasn't specifically looking for this contest I would never have known about it. fyi.

Really don't understand it. Over 27,000 members and only 17 entering the contest. Hardly seems right !?! Didn't realize that $10.00 was too much for so many.

Ron

P.S. And if I remember correctly, some of the biggest crabs posted last year were from members that hadn't entered and then wished they had.

Testing out my new homemade crab measuring device on a hefty 7-3/8" lobster claw I had lying around. Getting excited for the start of CRAB season!

Hey Arbutis, Great looking measuring device. How the heck did you cut that slit in the board on the right, the slit that the ruler slides through?
