A bird shortage.  Really.  Have you seen the eastern shore?  Birds everywhere.

I guess that's there excuse for this year's price hike.  $0.59 to $1.00/pound for trash.  they should be paying us to take it! Grin

I'll never forget the 10 cases I bought from Weis, not long ago, for $6/case.  yes, $6 for 40 pounds of necks.  That only lasted 2 years. Grin  I should have bought 1000 cases.

there is always an excuse for price increases except greed.

My opinion on fowl necks, hard to get, more expensive, didn't catch any better than chicken and didn't last as long.

$2 a case more and last longer than necks, well worth it when you get more necks per box since you don't have all that fat to deal with.
Clams must be kept alive ,baited the night or day before tying up your whole weekend and a P.I.T.A. for the average weekend crabber running 1200 ft or less. Do what you like, but I'm sticking with F.N's.

i bought a 40lb. box from richardsons in white marsh for the first time. $22. thought that was a good deal. worse necks i ever bought. so small and skinny. at least 3-4 lbs. of 1/2" bits. i was paying .99/lb from local grocery store. knew that was expensive but they were very large and fat. usually had to cut them in half. just wondering is it you get what you pay for? when you break it down its only a couple bucks extra per trip.

I buy 2-3 lb packs of frozen skinless necks for 0.69 per lb which I break down further to 10-12 necks per bag. I don't mind a little extra per lb for the convenience of small packages.

Just kidding.  I'd love 2 go through 10 cases of necks a year but these days 1 or 2 might be tough.  But like I always say, best time to crab is when you can.  Hope you get out there a lot and mug up on the crabs bgfishhook!
