shot a nice tom today...9 " beard, 7/8" spurs, and white wings.  apparently, some wild hen turkey flew the fence at the farm next door and got busy with a domestic turkey.  either that or it is some sort of smoke phased bird.  being that the neighbors do have turkeys, i assume it is the former.  anyway, cool bird and it will end up on my wall...

Yeah, I am in Massachusetts.

Congrats on the double beard!  I've never seen one while in season and would love to get one.

Nice birds guys

Got screwed out of one on Saturday.  A guy setup about 100yds behind me heard the gobbler, and wouldn't stop calling the whole time.  After the gobbler shut up, the other hunter broke out the crow call, followed by an owl call.  Both calls have their usefulness, but not at calling in a spooked out tom.  Did find it a relief that he called so much on his box call he must have run out of chalk, because the calls kept getting worse the longer he went.  Didn't hear him after the owl calling, but the damage was done.

Now I just have to wait for a non-rainy morning and see if I can get that tom back in the mood.

I hate that.  Sometimes Toms aren't super vocal, and on those days you just have to rely on your scouting to hopefully be in the ball park at the right time.  You're not doing anything wrong, they're just not vocal.  Doesn't mean you have to call more and more.  Some guys just don't get that.

Actually last Saturday I heard one gobble all morning but I scouted seeing two bearded birds being in the spot I set up with a hen for a few days straight last week before work and during my lunch break.    I had the hen by me all morning and I knew it was a matter of time before the Toms came.  I barely called just enough to keep the hen thinking my decoys were real. lol   The Toms did come +3 more of them.  It was a surreal hunt, there were fans dancing everywhere.  Wish I could have recorded it, since I doubt to be that lucky again. lol

I like to say that calling turkeys is like talking to a woman or a cop, never say more than you have to when asked a question,  if you keep talking you will only get yourself in trouble.

In  Wal Mart.  Guaranteed kill. laugh laugh

I'm Jealous Lefty bagged that very nice bird.  Weather here for turkey season was horrible.  Rain and windy.  Birds didn't say boo.  Again weather is determining next years crop.  Cool and wet conditions are not good for the little chicks.  We are getting both.  Another bad hatch.  Won't be many birds for next year.

Ain't the first year they've ever had to deal with the weather, they'll be fine capt.

Turkey survive the harshest winters and deepest snows. Sometimes never coming out if the trees eating bark and twigs because snow is so deep. They always persevere.
