Topsail sound crabbing. Set out pots Friday evening- HOT HOT HOT was the word of the day. Gracious- heat index 105-107 and felt every degree of it. All pots set in my normal places- only set 10 pots and was quite surprised Saturday morning to find 26 keepers in them. They were re baited and check 2 other times before taking out of the water today. Only managed 13 more keepers. Not great numbers but with this heat- its understandable. Had a pretty intense thunderstorm also- Saturday evening so maybe that was the reason for low numbers this morning- only had 5 keepers. Total was 139 caught and 47 kept. Also had several nice sized stone crabs in the pots. They sure know when to show up- when ya can't keep them ! Had 1 large pin fish, 1 small flounder and 2 oyster toads in the pots as well. Stay Hydrated  and good luck to all !

Hey Saxon,
I want to thank you for the time you take to post on NC crabbing.  I know there are others who crab around NC but we hardly ever hear from them.  Thanks again!

Wife & I tried chicken neck'in in Oriental last week. Did squat, 3 under sized in 2 hrs. I think too much rain to get'um in shallow waters. Oh well there's always the next time.

Very Welcome Creol- I wish more people would post on here as well. We might all learn a few things. If your ever in the Topsail/ Surf City area- let me know. I am down there mainly on weekends- I go 2-3 times a month and know a few spots you could try. I'll keep posting as long as they let me. I do mistake the topic and the dates from time to time . I'm headed back Friday and going to set more pots this weekend. Stay tuned !
