Watched my son and his friend play biologist for the day. Tons of juvenile striped bass, white perch, alewives, killies, baby eels(elvers?), pumpkinseeds, sunfish, a micro micro largemouth, many juvenile bullheads, some nice sized snapper blues, and blue claws (nothing huge). Definitely was a recent shed in the area by the number of freshly shed shells collected around the shore line. Will post pics later and finally tally when DEC releases it tomorrow.

At the end of the day, it's not about how many fish or crabs you put in the cooler but about how many memories you put in your life and the lives of your "mates".

The official tally hasn't been finalized but unofficially (DEC is very responsive and cool with inquiries) we definitely picked the right location. Still waiting on #s to be added but as of now 1300 fish covering 47 species (record for the count) were observed. Croton Point Park's tally was 455 fish. Majority was YoY striped bass 335 & white perch 50. They haven't added in the invertebrates yet but I thought some would find the following of interest.....

2 crabs "caught" at Norrie Point in Staatsburg....115 odd miles from mouth of Hudson.

1 crab at Kingston Point....about 120 miles from mouth of Hudson.

1 crab at Coxsackie....over 150 miles up river.

In the past the farthest up river blue crabs have been encountered during the Count is the dam at Troy....180 miles from mouth of Hudson.

Wow!!!

Interesting information! That's great fun for a kid! I guess I never grew up because I still enjoy it and am interested in what is out there!
