Crabbed in one of my usual spots today with work buddies Robert and Jason. Most crabbers donít like giving up their exact crabbing spots, but I donít mind. My crabbing spot is on the Delaware river, near the Jersey shore line, approximately 50 miles south of Philadelphia, 76 miles north from Rehoboth Beach DE and 60 miles east from the Wye River. So there you go, you can crab in this area anytime you want and I wonít be upset.  laugh laugh Just look out for all of the commercial crab pots in this area near the yellow can.

The morning incoming tide was in our favor, but the strong gusty winds were not and it made crabbing very challenging to say the least. By the time we picked up our last traps the waves were 2-3 feet high. Crabbed 20 topless traps with bunker and chicken necks. Through rolling waves and gusty winds, Bobbie and Jason earned the 22 crabs that they caught, most were 5 ľ up to 6 Ĺ inches. To round out the steam pot, we bought a dozen jumbos from local seafood place.

Now most crabbers either clean before cooking or steam the crabs with just JO and a few like to boil their crabs, but anyway you cook a crab is a great way to cook a crab. I like to add a little more seasonings to my steamer. I fill the bottom of the pot with beer, white and apple cider vinegar and water to just barely touch the bottom of the rack. Then in the liquid I add a little bit of onion powder, lemon pepper, granulated garlic, celery salt, montreal steak seasoning, red pepper, black pepper, bunch of old bay and JO #2. Then as I layer my crabs, I cover them with a mixture of JO, dry mustard, old bay and red pepper flakes and them steam them on high so that the rolling boil of water covers most of the crabs. If you never added any extra seasonings to your liquid, give it a try, you may just become a fan of the extra flavor.

Great report with great pictures. All that extra seasoning, not sure my stomach could handle that. But interesting idea to say the least.

Discover, I was actually expecting some kind of crabbing joke but was thankfully surprised of your crabbing outing.  Looks like you guys had a great time even though the winds didn't cooperate.  Your steamed crabs had everything except one main ingredient.   You need to add about 4 more gallons of water to your steam. laugh laugh laugh laugh  Nice skipper.  Hope to see you in September.

laugh laugh laugh I am about as cheap and broke as broke as they come.  laugh laugh But for a chance to have some good food from Capt Ron and hanging out with good friends, it could be worth it. Now if someone out there wants to spot me a room for Friday night, I willingly accept your offer. I would like the king bed, mini fridge stocked with drinks and room with the spa tub, not that I am asking for too much.   thumbsup thumbsup laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh
