Well I was back at Topsail in what I thought may be an epic weekend of crabbing. Live and learn and take good notes !!!!  Set out 14 pots Friday evening and took out today- same place I have been the past several years. WORSE crabbing I have experienced. I managed to catch only 113 crabs ( should have easily doubled that ) with only 43 keepers.  Checked the pots this morning after re baiting last night and only had 27 crabs with 8 keepers. Maybe the change in barometric pressure has them hunkered down but I thought they'd be on the FEED before the storm. Good thing I don't get paid to think. Anyways- back down Thursday - Sunday to try the AFTER Irma crabbing and see if anything changes. Stay tuned !

Hey Hawkeye  if it works I'll take it ! I was surprised I at least didn't have some small ones this trip. Few and far between. I did have 1 female with eggs- doesn't see that much this late in the season.

Read up on the female blue crab and were they spawn. To me, finding them in in the fall would be right, if what the scientists report is correct.  Maybe that one was on it's way to deeper water.

Always look for a report from that area from you. Thanks for sharing.  I'm with you on the paid to think part, I'd be starving a lot, LOL.

I'd be starving also Evinrude. Change of plans. Due to high water and work priorities I am waiting another week to go back down and try again.

Saxon...I just moved to Kinston NC from Delaware. I have crabbed Delaware bay, and MD , Miles river , Tred Avon, Sassafras, Chester, Bo, Elk ...I'm ready to share some crabbin reports and pics from my new area. I crabbed 30 rings and 1200 ft trot line in Del and MD. I'm a rec crabber, interested in any areas around Morehead or close. I know I can't run the trot line here in NC. Please help...going nuts I need to taste some crabs.

Seabass (Greg) Thanks

Hey Seabass-

I mainly crab in the Surf City / Topsail area and sometimes ventures to Wilmington. If you are ever close by= let me know. I plan on going down tomorrow evening sometime and crab for the weekend. Got sick last weekend and could not make it.
