I have a few friends who loves to eat Crab Guts Smiley  When I was a Kid my Parents always told me, "don't eat the Squiggles, meaning Guts.  So I never have and doubt I ever will.  I have hunted and fished all my life and never ate guts from any other Critter.  Nobody I know eats Deer Guts, Game Bird Guts, or any Fish Guts.  So why eat Crab intestines ? I don't think it is crab guts , I would think it is more "fat reserves" from when crab is almost ready to slough.

If the crabs were caught in MD waters I eat them when the crabs have just been steamed and hot from the cooker, and I also dig into each corner of the crab shell to get out the other good eats that are up in there. I never used to do this until 2 years ago now I am a fan.

When I catch crabs out of the northern Del waters, no touchy no eating. Definitely different taste laugh laugh

I'm with you on that one. I don't want any part of that recycled bait in my belly.

The guts are one thing and the fat is another.  I'll never throw the fat away.  Spread some on 2 crackers with some garlic, crab meat and a slice of onion and you have a Cajun sandwich. laugh laugh

My lab loves the fat from the middle of the crabs that I give him when I'm eating crabs. I eat the points from the top shell. He knows the sound of pulling the top shell off a new crab so when I open one up he sits up waiting for his prize. He eats it and lays back down beside me until I open the next one. He tries to get others to do the same but gives up quickly only to come back to me and lay back down until he hears that sound!!!!! Got to take care of my buddy too.

I eat the fat in the crab head pointers.  I eat the entire crab when it comes to softshell minus apron/lungs.

In my opinion you have a far greater risk from consuming McDonalds all the time than having crab mustard aka hepatopancreas.

Unless you caught the crab from Springfield (pic below).  Then I suggest having McDs instead.

When I was a Kid my Parents always told me, "don't eat the Squiggles, meaning Guts.

wait - squiggles in a jimmy crab could mean the ducts for the sperm.  When you cook the crab they look like white intestines right?  There are no "squiggles" in a female crab.  yeah we don't eat that...unless it wasn't cleaned from a softshell - then i probably ate it without realizing.

I eat the guts and corners. It's good. Everyone has eaten intestines. Ok sausage are put into intestines. Anyone that has eaten a soft shell crab has eaten the intestine and fat from the corner of the shell. So if you have ever eaten a soft shell then you can't say you have never eaten or never will. Because you already have and more then likely loved it.  laugh

Crab shack I have been eating the guts as long as I can remember. I'm not that old but turning 40 soon. I also know a lot of people that eat the guts as well. If I happen to die from eating something good its a much better way to go then a lot of other ways.  skull wings thumbsup

Sometimes the stool reminds you of what you have eaten lately.  For those that eat guts, is that true?   LOL

I was more thinking of when I eat softshells from a restaurant/etc. If the place removes them, or leaves them, I wouldn't know.

I am getting old cause i don't get softshells often but I don't remember if i wash the guts out or not.  If i was serving them for my kids, then I believe i do as that is what I normally do for hardshells for my kids...but for myself I get lazy and just eat.  LOL.
