Went crabbing Last Saturday (10-25) and had a very good day. Caught 2 grey boxes and 1 champagne of crabs in 4 hours on 600' of trotline with chicken necks. Picture shows 1 box but I gave half the crabs away before Linda took the picture.
Went back today with JD and had a super day. As you can tell it was a little windy then mother nature turn the fan on very high. Winds picked up to 20+ and shifted to the NW. Had trouble running the lines with a crosswind with 1 foot white caps and to make things worst I had water in the gas tank and the engine kept stalling. After two hours and conditions worsening and the engine stalling we decided to call it a day. Ended up with 168 pounds of crabs which relates to 4 bushels.
2 600' lines baited with CN Crystal clear skies Winds blowing Water temp around 80* Air temp 65

Dang! Those crabs were flying over the rail quicker than Carson Wentz scrambling out of a for-sure-sack into open space for a first down! WTG Ron. That's a great video and some great action.

That video was a lot of fun to watch. I've never had a run like that. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, what a run. More than a half a bushel! Maryland crabbers haven't seen those type of numbers in one run in a couple decades. WTG Ron

Every run was at least 30-40 crabs per 600'. We only ran 1200' 5 times to catch all those crabs. After each line I had to disconnect the hose line and drain the water out of the fuel filter. If it wouldn't be for that I know we would have doubled our catch.
We took the video on the 3rd run. The first and second run was a little bit better than that. To bad rifle season opens on Saturday and I'm not sure when my next crabbing trip will be.

Impressive to say the least. Do you typically catch more females than males? What's the regs in a nutshell?

I still hold my commercial license. Their wasn't any restrictions until this past spring where they shut the season down for 1 month. Next year they are going to prohibit the position of females for the months of March and April 2018. That will be for commercial and recreational crabbing. Recreational crabbers are limited to 12 dozen per person.

So Ron, what would it cost me to get a comm lic. there were your at? Looks like a good place to retire and make extra cash doin what i love to do. I can't imagine runnin 3800 ft with that kind of action. What happened to your home build auto dipper? I run a 24 ft boat with auto dipper and line puller to reduce labor. PS it was great to meet you at the wye party this year.
