Well I was at it again.  Another great day.     Last week a front had come threw.  Temps were down, wind blowing with cloudy skies, and the water was murky.  Although the conditions were opposite I still caught a mess of crabs.  I tried something new.  Clam bags stuffed with fish scraps.  Worked great.  Those crabs loved the spec hides.  I bag had 4 crabs hanging from it.  Plenty 2 and 3 crabs on the bags.  The spec hides are really tough.  I'm going to bait with hides and necks to see if there is really a difference.  Anyway todays catch 272 pounds.  That's almost 7 baskets in 6 hours of crabbing.  Wink

Clear skies
no wind
air temp 83*
Water temp 80's
depth 4-6 feet
slight drift to a falling tide
1200' of trotline with CN and fish scraps

Nice going. How many do you keep for yourself for personal consumption? I assume you sell most of them.

I've heard from a neighbor about putting fish scraps in a bag for bait. I would see him perching in the morning. He told me he was catching crab bait for his clam bags. Said it was definitely catching crabs.

When I was crabbing commercially I would keep some of the skinny crabs for a home boil.  The last few years I've been catching and boiling for friends and family.  But the last 2 weeks I've sold my catch to the dock.  I'll probably go again Monday.
