Hello:

I am a recreational crabber but I want to catch as many as I can when I set out the traps. If I go with a half high trap with no baffles, can crabs escape? Do the baffles in the top full half keep crabs from escaping?

Half-sized are good for very shallow water.  I used them in a salt pond that was only a couple feet deep.  The full-sized traps would stick out of the water.  You need to run them more often since the crabs can escape more easily.

I kept a couple of half sized traps under my boat at the marina. I always had crabs in the pots when I checked them in the morning. Both Blue and Stone Crabs! The half traps work well!
