Well, I wish I that I was reading this report rather than writing it.  Thought I could squeeze one more productive trip out of this season but the cold (below 25) from Saturday must have hit the crabs hard and forced them into hibernation mode.  I had delusions of grandeur and hopes for crab cake appetizers for Thanksgiving but it was not to be.

It was a nice couple hours on the water, we were heavily baited with chicken wings and bunker in 13 topless traps and managed to get about 17 crabs in total.  A far cry from the 3 or 4 crabs per pull from just a week earlier.  Additionally, the seaweed was thick in some areas and without much productivity we called it after about 2 hours.

Hoping for a nice fall striper run and maybe a couple from the surf like last November.  Looking forward to May-June when all of these mediums come out of the mud and do a final molt into the jumbos that they were meant to be.  My prediction - early next season we'll be enjoying some BIG boys. Smiley

SAME HERE.

I had delusions of crabbing last Friday w/ 28 degrees in AM and 15 knot winds.  That was to be the swan song for 2017 season.  The week before water temps were in the high 50's namely 58.8 in the Sink.  Once it is in 50's it is truly day by day.  And the big drop in air temp chilled the place into the winter bed time.

So on Friday 11/10 instead put boat up for winter storage.  It sucks!

Yeah, I figured they probably would be in the mud after the weekend. Glad I went last week. At least you got some. Doesn't look like any warm weather in the coming week, so that's probably it, for this year.  Sad

sad but true however, 17 crabs at about +1/4 cup of meat each should give you about 20 nice cakes! Happy holiday!
