I'm planning on starting early too. I'm putting out pots next year. I'm not waiting to see if they come in the rivers later on then get snatched up by a barrage of crabbers.. I have a friend that caught as many as 19 bu. in April in a day with pots in 2017. No BS. I also knew a crabber that only caught 2 bu. in 250 pots. Right time, right place.

You got that right MIKE the only way you would see me in a YACK is if it had outriggers on it on both sides. I don't know how I will make out crabbing this upcoming season. I am in the process of making some new net rings that I feel are going to be better than the ones that Jim makes. I made 30 rings last year and only used them once and they worked really well they are the same as the ones that Jim makes except a few minor changes. He uses the chain method of making his meshes and I designed this new way of the Rosette method, I weave my net from the bottom up and Jim makes his meshes around and then joins them up the side of the net, either way the net looks the very same. I am presently using # 12 tarred BRAIDED Nylon instead of the twisted # 12 , the braided line is a bit heavier than the twisted which in my opinion it will last longer. I'll let you know how it works out for me. Keep in touch BROTHER !

Bob, are you talking as per my two photos? I weave from the metal ring up. No seam and I when I reach the top of my trap (last row) I double my sizzle for extra strength. Once you get the hang of it .... very easy! These photos just happened to be my bag for holding my traps.

That is some nice looking work that you have there. I am making some new rings this winter that in my opinion are going to be the best. I do not make my Rosette the same way that you do I use a length of # 12 Tarred twisted line stretched tight between the two thumb screw clamp brackets and then I tie 29 clove hitches on my ( E GAUGE ) which measures 1 1/2" then I tie the ends together and mount the Rosette on the spinner and then I start my net from the bottom up to the top 10 meshes high with the 10th mesh doubled. I am going to send you some pictures of how I do mine which nobody I know does this the way that I do. I also use a different knot that you use.
