What is the earliest someone has caught crabs and what was the water temp? Just wondering.

Here in North Carolina, we need water temperatures of 55 or above before we see much happening. Typically around mid April.

Thanks for the info. But I think n. Carolina is a bit of a stretch for me. But I think your right about the water temp.

Generally south NJ crabbing starts much earlier than the Sandy Hook area.

Ronster is bushelling in late April and early May while we are dumping out spider crabs in the Navesink.

You could.  I'd make other plans for dinner unless you live south of the Mason- Dixon line.

Water temps in the Shrewsbury River in north NJ this week are 40-47 degrees.

The 40 degree nights keep the temps down.   It's been a cold spring.

https://www.bluecrab.info/forum/index.php?topic=54431.msg494955#msg494955  Earlier than Ron's trip by two days, but nowhere near the results.  Should have stayed in hibernation for 48 more hours.
