Hi everyone i am looking at taking a family vacation to one of the beach in New Jersey. I told my wife that I will go if I can crab. Could you help me out with which one would be the best with crabbing close by? Thanks

Depends on the type of experience you are seeking. I guess it depends on the ages of your kids and interests.  If you are looking for the Jersey Shore fist pumping club life experience with a board walk there's Seaside (Heights and Park).  Ocean City NJ has a small boardwalk as does Point Pleasant.  The largest board Walk is Wildwood.  If you're looking to chill there's the Belmar area which is pretty much beach but close enough to six flags Great Adventure.  All Jersey shore areas have excellent restaurants.  Then also what are you looking to do? Beach, crab, salt water fish, fresh water fish, amusements, night life, gambling, if you give me a little info i'll help you out as much as I can.  I have two sons now 17/21 so for "boy things" i'm good to help...if you have girls then others would be more valuable....let me know

Just to add to what hobbes394 said...

Ocean City, NJ.  OCNJ is family friendly and a dry town.  No alcohol means a lot less college kids/drunks.  There are plenty of places to go right outside of town if that is your thing.  Like most shore locations, you do need to purchase a beach pass per person though.  The only way to avoid this is if you rent a home or get to a motel/hotel on the boardwalk (they will normally include it).  In terms of crabbing - Somers Pt/ Patcong creek is right there.  If you don't want to bring any crabbing gear you could also get a charter there.

A really different trip (no boardwalk) with just a beach would be the Sandy Hook Gateway National Recreation.  No beach fee, but you do pay a minor charge for entering with a car.  Doesn't matter how many people are in the car, it's just one flat fee.  If you are a member of the national parks already then there is no charge.  There are showers/restrooms etc and I think there is one small snack shop.  In terms of crabbing - south of this area is a large river called the Navesink for crabbing/boat rentals/gear.  If you bring your own boat/gear you could also try the Shrewsbury River (no rentals/gear).
