I went to Spruce Creek Park with four ring traps baited with chicken drum sticks. in one and a half hours I caught one male crab and di't see another crab! I then went to Doris Leeper park for about 3/4 of an hour and din't see a single crab! At both parks there were guys fishing but I didn't see anyone catch anything. I next drove to the north causeway fishing pier just in time to see FWC tag a guy for an egger female he had in his cooler. I talked with the FWC Officer later and he said the fella wasn't in their database so he only gave him a written warning. I hope he learns from his mistake!
I asked the Officer if he knew where people are catching crabs and he responded with a chuckle "Yeah they're catching egger females right here!"  He then stated that crabbing has been off and late this year.

We have had 10-14 inches of rain over the last two weeks and the water is tannin stained and brown in color. It's probably too fresh for the crabs and they have moved out of the backwaters. Hopefully things will stabilize soon. I also heard that the water temperature is lower this year than it was at this time last year so crab development will be slowed.
It hasn't been a good crabbing spring in this area!

I noticed on my drive out to the beach that it looks like the smaller pier is being repaired.  Any idea how long this is planning to take?

A couple of weeks ago they put a pile of lumber in the parking lot and then showed up for demolition. That all went real quick and then.......nothing! There isn't even anyone around to ask!
