Took the kayak out to Canaveral National Sea Shore Saturday morning. Arrived at what appeared to be low tide at 7:30am. I paddled out a little ways and set 5 ring traps. I let them soak for about 15 mins. I did four pulls yielding zero crabs. I decided to move locations and drop the nets again. While they were soaking this time, I paddled to a nearby island and got off the kayak and took a walk around in ankle deep water to see if i could spot any. TO my surprise the first island I stopped at had a nice male crab slowly walking under a low hanging tree. I was lucky enough to have my fishing net with me and scooped him up (was my first time doing this and boy are they quick). I ended up stopping to three other islands doing the same thing, netting only 4 more smaller keepers. The nets I was soaking offshore with chicken necks got no action all day! I was out there for approx 4 hours and decided to pack it in as it got VERY warm. All in all a slow day crabbing but a good day on the water. I saw multiple dolphin and manatee and in my opinion that never gets old. I am probably going to give it another week or two and try this again. Hoping things pick up soon!

Thanks for the report and glad to hear you got some for your efforts!
I stopped at the north causeway docks yesterday.
There were three people crabbing with about twelve ring nets with chicken in the water.
I talked with one of the guys...he said he has been there all day and he thinks he has six crabs.
He believes it's because of all the rain we have had and the water is not salty enough.
He's hoping it picks up by mid July.

When I lived in New Smyrna a few years back I had a lot of luck crabbing the 2-3 bay side docks in the Canaveral Sea Shore North. Filled the cooler a number of times.

The bay side dock by the interpretive center has a sign now..."No Crabbing"!
The two docks farther south by El Dora (7 & 8 ?) are still open.
I've never tried it down there. With not many crabs by the north causeway maybe I'll try down there.
