The week before I got to the inlet cove at near high tide. So much water the crabs were really spread out. Took me nearly three hours to get 16, with the size not so good. So yesterday I went back at the low tide and with the water receded it was easy to reach the channel. I got 18, nice size, nearly all females in a little more than an hour. I'm a surf fisherman so I use lady fish, blue fish, whiting, and pompano heads for bait. Probably could do just as well with chicken.  It seems to be a weird year. I only got/released 4-5 females with egg sacks. Appears to be the same for my old go to places in New Smyrna. Five years ago people would be catching coolers full at the North Causeway. It got so crowded there I started going to the South Bridge and everyone was having great success there on the incoming also. Lets hope this is just an off year. Nothing better though than fresh, white, sweet crab meat for dinner.

Thanks for the report! You did well! Stay up there! Don't bother heading south to your old haunts! There are not many crabs from Flagler down through Oak Hill by the reports I have seen and my own observations!
It has been one bummer year for crabs down here.
There are some crabs still here if you don't mind waiting six hours for six crabs!
I'm too impatient!
