I never set out pots this late in the year but I had a gentleman ask me for some so I told him I'd give it a try. I was not expecting anything much at all so I only set put 3 pots on Friday Dec 21 in a GALE and checked them Saturday and Sunday mornings before taking out. I was surprised to catch 25 crabs total with 18 keepers. Get back and find out that the guy now says his refrigerator is full and if I go back New Years week to let him know.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I would have not even tried except I wanted to give him a Christmas present. I guess I gave myself one. I do hope that ALL you folks that read this have the Merriest of Christmas's and hope the time with your families is very special. I wish you ALL a very Happy and healthy 2019 !

I sank the pots in around 5 feet of water. I have no idea what the water temp was. I was at the Surf City Pier Friday morning and the man
at the pier said the ocean water temp was 64 if that helps.

In north NJ we run into mid to late November before they bury themselves for winter.  And those are the best fullest crabs of the year if you don't mind usually crappy boating conditions.
