I am new to crabbing and I'm looking for some recommendations for places very near New Orleans (around 45 minutes away max) for crabbing from the shore or pier. I'm using a hand line and ring nets. Any advice would be appreciated very much.

I've already searched the forums, and what I've managed to piece together so far are recommendations for St. Charles Parish Canal (no specific location mentioned, maybe this is only for boats), Wetland Watchers Park, and Bonnabel boat launch (less than 20 minutes from my place) apparently has a pier nearby...I may check out those last two today. If I do, I'll make a report. Thanks in advance for any tips!

its always better from a boat, so if thats not gonna happen for a while, a kayak or something similar will work, but my opinion for hot spots is shell beach and lafitte, thats the only places i go when im there

Thanks. I did look up his posts specifically, as well as many others. I went to Bonnabel Boat Launch today, but found out the pier there is around 6 feet above water level, so not really great for crabbing with a hand line. Then I went to Bayou St. John around the Old Spanish Fort for a few hours, and didn't see a thing. I talked to a guy who said he had been crabbing in that spot for 30 years, and he wasn't catching anything either. He blamed the recent water release by the Army Corps of Engineers. I met a guy who has a YouTube channel, and he agreed that things should pick up soon. Here's one of his videos from the exact spot where I spent the afternoon. This is not a recommendation for his videos, by the way, since I haven't watched them. Lol. I just thought it was interesting to meet someone who claimed to have "millions" of views on YouTube...and then find out he was telling the truth.
