How it was in the New Smyrna area

Things seem like they have changed a lot since I lived in New Smyrna. People were filling their coolers this time of the year on the North Freeway. I finally gave it up there when the Asian restaurant owners came in and aggressively started pushing people off their spots on the railings (sorry, but it's true). Then I moved to the South Freeway and there were more local people there and a more relaxed scene and the crabbing was good there. Always about two hours into the incoming tide. I also went to the National Seashore a lot and could always count on catching crabs on the docks on the bay side past the restaurant. I also did well on the bridge out Turnbull Bay Road, although the cars wising by were a little unnerving. You could walk around to the railroad tracks and catch them there also. Seems like things have dropped off some. That was 5 years ago. Time flies. Good luck to everyone.

It wasn't bad here until two years ago when we got hit by the double hurricanes. It has not picked back up since!
The days of full coolers of crabs are gone. Hopefully it will pick back up again one day!
