I was wondering if anyone uses braided fishing line for crab trap line.  Thinking like 80lb test.  Is that just inviting ripped up fingers?   Anyway just looking for the thinnest most compact line or rope I can use. For metal ring traps and crab hawks.  Thanks.

On my fishing rod I use 20lb braid for a crabhawk.  For traps I use  braided macramé.  Braided line would be nasty on your hands.  Pros on macrame  is that it is strong and soft, easy on your hands.  Cons is that it floats and may get cut or caught up in propellers.

Don't go too thin, that [shiz] will tangle a lot more. And YES, braided fishing line will destroy your hands, if it doesn't cut them off.

I use 1/4" braided.  Cheap and easy on the hands.  It's not the line that takes up space, it's the floats.
