I got a new Bushel Pot to replace the one that I had that kept developing pin holes in it. I got tired of plugging up the holes with SS Screws.  So I got this heavy duty one at the Pasadena Fishing Flea Market.

Great video MOC.  Thanks for the detail you provide.  I hope you'll need both pots this season!

  Hey MARTY:

That was a nice video of explaining your new Crab Steamer. 304 and 309 Stainless is not a good grade of Stainless those two grades have got more Carbon Steel in them than the best grade of Stainless 316. Stainless Steel is composed of two basic metals Nickle and Chrome, the more Chrome in Stainless the harder it is, the more Nickle in Stainless the softer it is. Don't be fooled with the term Stainless Steel, the first word tells you what to expect, it will Stain - Less. but let me tell you if Stainless Steel comes in contact with Carbon Steel the Stainless Steel will always rust through and cause a hole. You done the right thing by buying the 316 grade Stainless Steel, and you hit the nail right on the head with the aluminum Crab Steamer, it is a no no  to use any acidic products when steaming crabs. The seasoning alone has got salt in it so that is also a no no. Years ago before The Hopkins Crab House outside of Port Deposit Maryland went out of business we used to drive down there and spend the afternoon eating crabs and drinking beer. I watched them often steaming crabs, they would numb them in a very large vat filled with ice & water, then they would stack them in the steamer baskets and steam them. It was only after the crabs came out of the steamer that any Old Bay was put on them when they were still very hot. In all of the years that we bought crabs there I never once saw them put seasoning on the crabs before steaming them. Check me out on this , but the picking houses do not use any seasoning on the crabs at all that they steam. The pin holes that are in your steamer was caused by salt and vinegar, try steaming your crabs without any seasoning on them and after they come out of the steamer sprinkle them with your Old Bay, you'll like it better and so will your new steamer too !  See the picture below this is my  316 Stainless Steel Steamer, everything fits inside of it including the gas bottle.

Hey STEVE ole buddy how have you been anyways?
I have a smaller version of the beer barrel that I am
working on, this one should do about two or three
dozen crabs. I need to find some stainless expanded
metal to finish it, if I ever do. It is a cute little thing.

I made the basket for mine from a piece of 316 expanded stainless. The ring at the top is a piece of 3/8 inch heavy wall stainless steel. I bent that around a 7 gallon bucket. Everything fit together really well and it is solid. I've had this thing for at least 40 years and it does not show any wear at all. the burner under the barrel is a large cast iron burner from a restaurant stove and it is not noisy at all. You cannot hear it running. I like it very much, it will do a full bushel of crabs and two dozen ears of corn in 30 minutes.
