Guys, sorry newbie here. How is the market looking right now in MD/VA/NJ? What sort of wholesale prices are people getting?

There are demand challenges right now in NJ which I previously indicated in this topic.  NJ dealers are running out of supply daily according to what I witnessed with my own eyes and spoke to other dealers about.  This occurred prior to stimulus checks being sent out.  I watched a line of folks in masks waiting to buy live crabs.   Wholesale to NJ right now is around $75-$80/ mixed male bushel.

On Saturday I visited a live crab dealer in NJ that is open 12 months of the year, 7 days per week.  Spoke to him about how his business is doing in the midst of Covid-19.  There were 5 customers in line in front of me buying by the dozen, 3, 2, 1, 3, etc.  The males were selling for $30/doz.  He said they were supplied by Louisiana.  The crabs were about 6.5" and heavy.  He said his biggest challenge was getting enough crabs to handle the demand of his customers and he was typically running out daily.  Another 5 customers rolled in while I was departing.  So, from what I saw, the demand is there and people will find some money to buy a crab dinner.

I know this is an older thread... and this may be off topic but I thought it appropriate....

WE ARE NOT IN THE SAME BOAT …

I heard that we are all in the same boat, but it’s not like that. We are in the same storm, but not in the same boat. Your ship could be shipwrecked and mine might not be. Or vice versa.

For some, quarantine is optimal. A moment of reflection, of re-connection, easy in flip flops, with a cocktail or coffee. For others, this is a desperate financial & family crisis.

For some that live alone they’re facing endless loneliness. While for others it is peace, rest & time with their mother, father, sons & daughters.

With the $600 weekly increase in unemployment some are bringing in more money to their households than they were working. Others are working more hours for less money due to pay cuts or loss in sales.

Some were concerned about getting a certain candy for Easter while others were concerned if there would be enough bread, milk and eggs for the weekend.

Some want to go back to work because they don’t qualify for unemployment and are running out of money. Others want to kill those who break the quarantine.

Some are home spending 2-3 hours/day helping their child with online schooling while others are spending 2-3 hours/day to educate their children on top of a 10-12 hour workday.

Some have experienced the near death of the virus, some have already lost someone from it and some are not sure if their loved ones are going to make it. Others don’t believe this is a big deal.

Some have faith in God and expect miracles during this 2020. Others say the worst is yet to come.

So, friends, we are not in the same boat. We are going through a time when our perceptions and needs are completely different.

Each of us will emerge, in our own way, from this storm. It is very important to see beyond what is seen at first glance. Not just looking, actually seeing.

We are all on different ships during this storm experiencing a very different journey.

that was posted a bit back.  I don't know the author, but I do know which member posted it.  So, I'll quote Winston Churchill, "If you're walking through [Sam Hill], keep walking thru [Sam Hill]".  What this means to me is, journey ahead at all costs, the good, the bad, etc.  We all need to forge ahead in the worst and best of circumstances.  And those that are more fortunate should help the others that are not so fortunate.
