Late Report Indian River - Clinton June 20, 2020

After much delay, but great tides, I could not miss out on an opportunity to take a look at the conditions for crabbing. Giancarlo Lomanto, a veteran crabber and recent Sound School graduate (see Northeast crab report October 23, 2019 Old Saybrook and Clinton) wanted to give it a try. He was going to show his cousin Victor Campanile and friend Jonathan Pico, how to do it. They set five lines and two box traps baited with cut mackerel and menhaden in Vexar bait bags. With three hours of active crabbing, over 50 small crabs equally split between male and female, two legal crabs and about 10 - 4.5-inch crabs that should be legal next shed. Everyone had a lot of fun and from the numbers of small crabs -the crabbing should improve. The next shed should put those four-inch crabs to legal sizes-
