Out on Biolabs Rd 7-16-20

When out this morning to try a catch a few bait crabs. 1st place we went had ZERO hits after an hour so we moved. 10 minutes after the chicken leg was in the water we had hits. But we just couldn't get it near enough to use the net. It didn't feel like a crab though when it hit. A couple other times, we could tell they were crabs but lost 'em. Had 4 lines out and 2 were active a lot. After several hours and no crabs we went home. As we were preparing to leave, the real culprit broke the surface and had one of the discarded chicken legs in his mouth.

Try metal circular baskets. If you pull strong there is no way the crabs can escape. Good luck. We are all struggling this year, which for me is the worst ever.

Went back out yesterday to the same place to try our hand at catching some bait crabs again . . . .

Bought a couple small frozen mullet, strung'em up, tossed'em out  and then went fishing.

My wife caught a couple Reds, a Black Drum, and a butt-load of cats...

I caught a Black drum, small red, 3 ft gar, and a butt-load of cats...

Was checking the crab line off and on. . . it never moved. After about 2 hours in the water I pulled it in and found that it was destroyed??

Then I noticed the gator. . . . about the same size as the one we saw back in July.

So I'm guessing that this is now his/her territory and crabbing will always be [curd]!!!

Thanks for the report and glad you caught some fish!
I told a buddy of mine that I like eating Sailcats. He said maybe but you won't like Hardhead cats!
Next time out I caught a couple and a small Jack. I brought them home to try.
Filet and fried with a drizzle of lemon. Umum good!
Any fish fried then ceviche with lemon tastes good!
