Lines in 0730 on the trailer 1100
Dead low then incoming
4 feet to 11 feet
Two 300 foot lines baited with necks

Crabbed with my cousin today on the Elizabeth river, made three lays 4, 8 and 11 feet, eight foot was the most consistent producer today. What a difference twelve days made, our last trip it was two females on a bait males were nowhere to be found today was just the opposite males returned and females were scarce. Ended the day with half a basket.

This was my first year running a trotline so I don't have any history to look back on but just some observations from this year. May thru mid August males very few females no really big crabs mostly 5 to 6 1/2 inch.  Mid August thru September all females with a few under size males mixed in. October legal size males returned with a few large females mixed in.  Through the summer bait was basically gone by mid morning today I could have used the bait a second day. During hot weather small (2-3 inch) bait stealer crabs were all over the lines today none. I was lucky this year as it appears I was the only one running a line in this part of the river so I was able to set lines in the same two creeks all summer so it was interesting to see the cycle of the crabs males to females then back to males. It would have been interesting to know the salinity levels as the crabs cycled thru. I have enough necks salted for three more trips this year before our season ends Oct 31 so we will see what happens.

Nice looking crabs WADE Glad you can still get some .
Any day now things are going to blow up and get cold
so you better get them while you can. Here is hoping
that you can get out a few more times and fill your
steamer again. Good luck to you . I like your reports.
