Charlie (aka Pesky) was whining to go crabbing when I came down to the kitchen this morning!  She spend last weekend in the kennel while I was off seeing my son get married in the OBX.  Loaded up and got to the ramp under just cloudy sky's and the air temp was low 60's (I think).

Found a stretch not by duck blinds to string out 2400' of necks in 8-19' of water.  I was shooting for 16-18' but went over a hump for shallow water.  The rain began the moment I deployed the line and I had 15 minutes to drink coffee before running it.  The water was 65 degrees.  Just 2 degrees cooler than when I left it two weeks ago.  There seemed to be crabs at all depths but the 16' seemed like it might have been the winner.  I got equal amounts of females, mediums, and large with many being the true jumbo fall males.  RANT: I have some who ask me for the largest I have (and that usually just ends up being my large crabs) but if I'm sorting these 4 dozen a basket jumbos out, then they need to be recognized.

Tide was high then falling to the bottom over the entire time.  The crabbing was maybe not HOT, but not bad after working it until 1pm.   There seemed to be plenty of bait left on the line (and that's good because I used up all the 5 or six freezer bags I had of leftover fowl necks.

Couple DNR and local police boat ran up and down the river.  Crossing wakes and such.  Must have been training.  It was cool, though tossed me around a bit.  Just glad they didn't train on stops and waste my time with that!

The weather forecast looks good to me for another weekend of crabbing.  Water temps are going to drop a bit.  I think I quit about this time last year or two.  I'd like to hit November, but who knows.
