A little fog on the water - Western Shore Mid-Bay River 11/6/2020

I got out before sunrise and dumped my 2400' of clams in what ended up being 14-19 feet of 56 or so degree water. At sunrise I crabbed a couple hours of a rising tide then falling in the first hours of the afternoon. Crabbing was slow, then got worse when the tides shifts. My notes tell me 56 degrees is when its about over for crabbing. I rigged up a pull line on my weight to pull the line tight since working in deeper water this can become a problem. I must say suggestion from BCA, Big Liar was a very good idea. I forgot to get a picture, but will try to remember tomorrow. A buddy dipped up a plucked goose so that took the prize for oddest item netted this year, and next! Made todays rockfish seem like small potatoes. There was plenty of fog across the bay, kept the Eastern Shore obscured until noon, when the fog rode over to the Western Shore about noon for a few minutes before lifting. Ended with a little over three, all in.

I used a pull line on each anchor. I use them in deep and shallow water.

Thanks for the report and killer pics. I guess the fat lady is about to sing.
Can’t wait until next season, to all the crabbers that are about to hit the woods and fields hunting, best of luck.

Thank you GUY for another great report with some neat pictures.
All that I can say it is a shame that I live so far from where you
launch your boat I would take a dozen off of your hands at any
cost you set on them. You work hard on the water and you should
be paid well for your chores. It looks like another season is about to
end. Thanks for hooking me up with some quality crabs, I am pleased
with them and they will make my BRIDE and me happy this winter.
Take care of yourself and stay healthy. Crab on my friend with tight lines.

Crazy better than lifting the weight back to the boat and dumping it again, to have it bounce back loose.

In addition to that plenty of smalls and immature females still to sort through. Its been a good year for crabbing. I'm gonna end this year on a high note. - Guy

Bummer. I switched back to clams two weekends ago, (I should have 4-5 weeks ago!) and that made a difference. As the sun warmed the water the afternoon catch was better than the early morning. And the tide changes were slow, but the crabs did turn up in good numbers for me Friday and Saturday. I'd imagine Sunday will be good out in the mouth of the rivers in good water. If I could do three days in a row I would be back out there.
