Friday afternoon hunt 11/27

Got this nine pointer yesterday afternoon. He followed in a half dozen does and I was waiting for him to take a couple more steps so I could have my shot. I think a squirrel or something scared one of the does which spooked the buck and off he ran. Slowly buy surely after about an hour they started coming back through, one by one and the buck couldn't help himself. He was coming straight on and finally turned enough for me to have a shot. Got him with my crossbow, weighed in at 154 lbs. after I cleaned him out.
Saw something new (to me anyway) when I dropped off the deer at the taxidermist. He's doing European mounts that he dips in some sort of paint and they come in camo. He's has a couple different colors/shades he can do them in. Pretty darn cool looking. He said $75 to dip them. Might just have to take him one for something a little different.

Nice deer.
That's called hydro dipping. You can coat just about anything and they make kits for you to do it yourself.

Thanks, yeah checked it out on Amazon. Twenty-five bucks will get you the kit to do it. Think I'll experiment on a euro mount and see what happens.

Thanks! I'm not sure if my heart was pounding more from pulling the trigger or from pulling him out of the woods!!

!!
Now that I can fully understand. The one I shot the other week was 152lbs field dressed and I had to drag him up hill all the way. I had my sled and still could only pull him 10' at a time and then had to muscle him into the back of the truck. I don't normally field dress them in the woods because I try to keep the foxes and coyotes out of my hunting areas but he got the gut job where he dropped.

That is a nice buck! Congratulations. I have a feeling I will not shoot one this year. Hoping to take out some does.

Thanks, if was a good afternoon. Pretty sure I told you guys about a "monster" buck I saw in velvet at the end of August. I have no idea if this was him or not. Hopefully not, then maybe that means he's still out there! The Mrs. would probably divorce me if I do two shoulder mounts in the same year, lol.
