I took a bag of vacuum sealed steamed crab meat out tonight dated 9/26/20. Thawed it out and put it in some macaroni and cheese, it was pretty bad tasted like fish not even good fish and smelled worse. Iam normally out of crab by super bowl or so. Is 7 months to long to keep it?

no not too long to keep it but I prefer to use frozen in crab soup or crab dip.

I am still thawing out crab meat from October and it seems good.   Generally, I'm using it to make crab cakes, so a fishy taste would be pretty obvious.   I will say that keeping it in a standalone freezer which is only opened 1-2 times a week rather than a refrig/freezer which is opened multiple times per day helps keep it fresh.
