I have a few recipes that I tried and I ended up using more Old Bay for the flavor!
To me a crab cake needs Old Bay! Everybody has different flavor requirements!

I had to think... Been a long time since I made crab cakes. I don't think we ever used anything but salt and pepper, raw egg (as a binder), mayonnaise, mustard and panko.  Google turned up a lot of recipes w/o OB.

I just tried a light sprinkle of Old Bay on corn on the cob; never tried it before! Very tasty indeed!

Our original family recipe predates Old Bay, it originally called for just salt and pepper, was later changed to Old Bay, but my mother still lists both with Old Bay as an option any time she writes it down for someone.

I added the quantity of Salt and Pepper (or Old Bay) as a lot of my mothers cooking is she “just knows” how much.  I’m happy this one is at least documented, her grandmothers potato salad is 100% in her head.

The recipe is embarrassingly simple, but they really are the best crab cakes (I’m not biased)  Grin
