what water temperatures do the crabs become active in?
Environment
Water Temperature

Water temperature requirements vary and are considered important, but no optimal range is reported.

When air temperatures drop below 50F (10C), adult crabs leave shallow, inshore waters and seek deeper areas where they bury themselves and remain in a state of torpor throughout the winter. Blue crab growth is regulated by water temperature. Growth occurs when water temperatures are above 59F (15C). Water temperature above 91F (33C) is lethal. Blue crabs are susceptible to sudden drops in temperature. => https://www.bluecrab.info/lifecycle.html

You can click on the little crab at the bottom of every page to open the info section of the BCA..  The short answer is crabs will be moving around anytime the water is above 50ish.  Most crabbers are looking for 60-65 degree's to really get serious. Cool

My water surface observation has been that crab catch activity begins for me with warmer temps in later spring (at 60/65 or so) but the catch continues on the other closing end of the season as the temps fall into the upper to mid-50s.

That sure can't be me because I only drink two times . # 1 when I am by myself. and # 2 When I am with somebody , I bought that Stroh's beer barrel at the local beer distributor for $ 10.00 brought it home and cut it apart and welded it into it's present condition. This contraption has served me well for almost 50 years and it is still going strong. I love to make hings with my own two hands !
