I don't know if this will help but when I crab in the hudson I crab in bear mountain ny off the bear mountain dock. Best time is usually the first weekend after the fourth of july thru the end of September. That said, I always get the itch when the weather starts warming up and play the guinea pig and try it in June, that is a hit and miss, usually miss. Oh yeah, hudson river, bluegills are the best bait!!!! Wink Wink Wink

If you're looking to only crab for an hour and expect to catch enough crabs for a meal your best bet is to head over to your local fishmonger because your expectations are mostly unreasonable. Crabbing isn't something you do for an hour and have enough crab (for the most part) especially on the Hudson. The information you you got for Cold Spring was correct. I'm not sure what you mean by crabbing at the Tappan Zee as you can't crab by or off the bridge. My two favorite spots on the Hudson are at Piermont and Bear Mountain. Mid July is a good time. June works too if it's warm enough. When the crab are active varies from year to year and depends on various conditions. Only way to know when is best is to go out and crab.
