Just curious if anyone puts fish or anything besides clams into clam bags? I caught a bunch of white perch and put the racks in bags on my trot line ( only used 5 on 800’ of line) but only had on small crab on a bag after 6 runs. I had thought of putting various things into the bags to test it out. Deer liver, chicken liver, squirrel ribs… any thoughts?

Please try all that stuff.  I started a conversation on baits and potential baits, and just funny stuff to try as well.

I'm surprised at that.  White perch is a good bait for crabs.  Bluefish is better but white perch is pretty darn good

I have been using Spot fish to catch crabs in circle traps.   Squid, Pork fat, and shrimp heads caught zero crabs.

I have used cut up menhaden in clam bags, and caught the biggest crabs on them. Shrimp heads work, but not as good as fish.  Capt. CJ on the FV miss paula uses shrimp heads, says it works better then bunker in his traps, but he added it takes a couple days to get working.
My fav bait for traps is cut up Bonito, a real bloody fish that puts out  a slick trail crabs can home in on quick.
